Internal Poll: Richmond Up 40 In Louisiana

An internal poll for Democrat Cedric Richmond shows him with a wide lead in Louisiana's 2nd district over fellow state Rep. Juan LaFonta with two months to go before their August 28 primary.
According to the survey of 341 likely Democratic primary voters, Richmond, shown at left, is crushing LaFonta, 53 percent to 13 percent, with 34 percent undecided. The poll was in the field June 24 through 27 and had a 6-point margin of error.

The automated phone survey was conducted for the Richmond campaign by Zata 3 Consulting, a firm that's been around since 2005 but is more often known for its advocacy work. Zata 3 Consulting has conducted campaign polling in the Arkansas Democratic Senate primary this cycle in as well as in House races in Tennessee and Mississippi.

Richmond, who came in third in a seven-way primary in 2008, had a 58 percent favorable rating according to the Zata 3 survey and 17 percent unfavorable rating. LaFonta held a a 36 percent favorable 14 percent unfavorable rating.

The winner of the Democratic primary will be favored this fall to beat Rep Anh "Joseph" Cao (R) in the fall.
