Congressman Richmond Fights for Avondale Shipyard Workers


On Friday May, 13, Representative Cedric L. Richmond announced that the state of Louisiana had been awarded a grant of almost $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce to assist displaced Avondale Shipyard workers find new jobs. The recent transfer of the shipyard’s ownership by Northrop Grumman has placed the jobs of nearly 4,000 union skilled trade workers in jeopardy.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro on Friday announced his endorsement for State Rep. Cedric Richmond in the race for the 2nd Congressional District seat.

Cannizzaro said that Richmond, a Democrat from New Orleans, "will assist us in making the streets of this community safer," by obtaining federal money needed to address the city's crime problem.

Rep. Anh 'Joseph' Cao's fundraising for 2nd District race lags

State Rep. Cedric Richmond, who is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 2nd Congressional District, raised more money than Republican incumbent Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao in the first three months of 2010.

And for the second quarter in a row, Cao spent a little more than he took in, and his three-month haul of $101,451 was considerably smaller than the $247,775 he received in the last three months of 2009. But, as of March 31, Cao, who is not facing a primary challenge, still had more cash on hand -- $309,000 -- than Richmond, who had $279,000.
