President Barack Obama has endorsed Democratic candidate Cedric Richmond in his effort to unseat incumbent Republican Anh "Joseph" Cao in Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District, according to a statement issued Sunday by Richmond's campaign.

New Orleans, LA – Today, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has announced his support of Cedric Richmond’s candidacy for Louisiana’s Second Congressional District.

Today, Sheriff Marlin Gusman stands alongside many civic and community leaders in endorsing Cedric Richmond to represent Louisiana's Second Congressional District.

"Cedric has the experience and proven track record. I know he will make a great representative for the Second Congressional District," says Gusman. "As chairman of the Judiciary Committee he knows firsthand the problems we face in the Criminal Justice System and he has worked tirelessly in the fight against crime."
As a senior member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, Richmond has been instrumental in drafting a number of bills to help curb crime in New Orleans.

State Rep. Cedric Richmond still faces a Democratic primary for the right to challenge Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao, R-New Orleans, in the 2nd Congressional District in the fall. But the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has already thrown in their lot with Richmond, announcing last week that he has been added to their Red to Blue program, which offers financial, communications, grassroots and strategic support, and introduces the select group of Democratic candidates -- there are 27 so far this cycle -- to Democratic donors around the country.

Two state lawmakers who persuaded the Legislature to call for BP to provide full access to its oil-spill information now say they’re frustrated with the oil giant’s continued lack of compliance.

(New Orleans, LA.) Today, State Representative Cedric Richmond (D-New Orleans) qualified for the August Democratic primary for Louisiana’s Second Congressional District. 

Looking to stake his claim as the presumptive Democratic nominee in the race for the 2nd Congressional District, state Rep. Cedric Richmond of New Orleans came out swinging Monday as he kicked off his bid to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao.

State Rep. Cedric Richmond, who is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 2nd Congressional District, raised more money than Republican incumbent Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao in the first three months of 2010.

And for the second quarter in a row, Cao spent a little more than he took in, and his three-month haul of $101,451 was considerably smaller than the $247,775 he received in the last three months of 2009. But, as of March 31, Cao, who is not facing a primary challenge, still had more cash on hand -- $309,000 -- than Richmond, who had $279,000.
